Lew Olson became active in showing dogs in 1974 when she competed in obedience with a Doberman pinscher. With the honor of highest scoring Doberman at her first show, she was hooked! Since then, Lew has owned and shown American Black and Tan Coonhounds, Border Terriers and her current breed, Rottweilers. She has been with the Rottweiler breed since 1979.While still showing dogs occasionally, Lew is an American Kennel Club judge and is approved to judge seven working breeds and one hound breed (Black and Tan Coonhounds, of course!). She is a member of the American Rottweiler Club, Medallion Rottweiler Club, Texican Rottweiler Club and she is President of the Conroe Kennel Club in Texas. She became active in Rottweiler Rescue during Hurricane Katrina and remains active in helping and volunteering with local rescue and transportation efforts.
Lew has her Masters degree in Social Work and her PhD in Natural Nutrition. She writes a monthly canine nutrition column for the B-Naturals website, she has been published in the New Zealand Gazette, the Mein Hund (Swiss), the Rottweiler Quarterly and other breed magazines. At the present time, she is preparing to publish her book on Canine Nutrition.
She lives in Magnolia, Texas with her husband, Jeff Shaver. Her husband is an AKC tracking judge and an attorney. Together, they both devote time fighting anti-dog legislation around the country. They currently own 17 Rottweilers and have three Paint horses, Judy, Skipper and Danny.
